What is the Greenwich Color Challenge?
The Greenwich Color Challenge is a color fun run that includes a 1.5 mile run/walk and obstacle course including obstacle stations and 6 color powder stations where participants are dusted with color. It is a wonderful celebration of color, family, friends and fun where everyone gets decked out in their most colorful accessories and comes ready to run, walk, jump, climb, dodge, duck, laugh and have a great time! Come with friends and family and enjoy this fun morning! Over 1,000 people from all over Greenwich participated at our last live event! We hope you will join us for this colorful event!
When is it?
The 6th Greenwich Color Challenge will be held on April 6th, 2024 at 55 Florence Road in Riverside, CT starting at 9am.
What is the Race Fee?
- $40 per person ($50 last minute - ages 5 and over). Race fee includes a race pack with a t-shirt, sunglasses and string bag (while supplies last).
- Kids 4 and under can participate for free but will not receive a race pack.
What is the color powder?
The color powder is cornstarch colored with food coloring. It is safe, non-toxic and easy to clean off.
The Greenwich Color Challenge is a fundraiser of the ISD PTA.
All proceeds from the Greenwich Color Challenge go towards
educational enrichment programs at The International School at Dundee.
What is the colored powdered made from?
The color is cornstarch and food coloring. It is safe and nontoxic. If someone in your family would prefer not to get colored, you can still join the fun! Simply go around the color station. The color will easily wash out of your clothes and skin. It's easiest to get off if you first dust off as much as possible and then wash with soap and water.
Will the color come out of my clothes?
Generally yes, but the sooner you wash them the more likely they will go back to the original color.
What if I want to preserve the colors in my color run shirt?
Try to keep the colored powder on the shirt. Spray vinegar all over the shirt. Iron the shirt while wet with vinegar. Dry the shirt in the dryer. Wear it again!
How many people attend the Greenwich Color Challenge?
Last year we had over 1000 people at the event but because time slots are staggered, and people walk/run at different paces there is never too many people at a color station or obstacle.
What kind of obstacles are in the obstacle course?
We call it a challenge, but it's more fun than challenging. There are obstacles to jump, climb, dodge, escape, avoid and crawl under. It's doable for the whole family with several obstacles leveled for younger and older participants. If you or your child want to avoid an obstacle, you can absolutely go around it. It's all about having a good time!
Are strollers welcome?
Yes! The first 1.5 miles is flat and stroller friendly. When you arrive at a color station, your little person can even jump out and get doused with powder. Remember to tell each color station if you don't want them to color the stroller! Just before you get to the obstacle course portion of the race you can park your stroller and your little people can run/walk the remainder of the race with you!
Can I walk during the Greenwich Color Challenge? Yes; the race is a run and/or walk!
What's at the finish line?
Food, music, games and prizes await you at the end of the race!
